MINUTES FOR THE VIDEO PRODUCERS CLUB August 24, 2017 MEETING
Members present: Joseph Valentinetti, Lorene Christian, Irene Cistaro, Janice Laine, Michael Oh, Joe Osuna, Bonnie Cooper, Mike Turis, Howard Jarvis, John Robinson, Anna Derby, Helen Tran, Bob Gronski, Bev Bender, Mara Williams, Janice Laine, Robin Forte-Lincke.
Minutes: The July minutes were unanimously approved.
Treasurer: The July treasurer’s report showed a balance of $1998.90 ($.08 interest earned) in the bank account. New Dues added$25.00, plus $30 transferred from the petty cash to make a balance of $2053.90. Petty cash balance is again $100.00. The treasurer’s report was unanimously approved.
Birthdays: Lorene celebrated her birthday by bringing cupcakes for everyone. It was also Bob Groncki’s birthday month.
New Business: The recreation department asked the Video Club to learn how to operate the new video equipment recently purchased for the amphitheater. Joseph, Joe, Mike T and Michael Oh went to the amphitheater so that Tommy Fileto could show them how the new equipment works. The video club will be staffing many of the amphitheater events now. Volunteers are needed to learn how to use this new equipment.
The shows recorded with this new equipment will be broadcast over Superwire so that residents who are unable to attend shows at the amphitheater will be able to see them in the comfort of their homes.
Inside Leisure World for September is finished and Bonnie Cooper volunteered to have a show completed for October.
Joe will continue to train members on how to convert VHS to disc on Monday mornings.
Richard Houck is on vacation and a volunteer is needed for his Tuesday morning shift. All of the other Keep It Open (KIO) shifts are being covered.
The air conditioning unit has been repaired.
Round Table Lorene volunteered to crew with anyone who needs help. She volunteered for Thursday nights at the amphitheater.
Howard Jarvis will be going to Michigan for his 60th reunion.
Anna, working with Paul Bassett, Michael Oh, and Mike Turis finished the Good News Singers Concert and they will be covering Tommy Williams “Disney” show. Anna reported that Paul is doing much better and plans to help with the editing of the “Disney” show.
Bob Groncki finished his first video interview which he also produced. Bob plans to create a series of interviews “Voices of Music.” In this series, he will individually interview many of the musicians in Leisure World and sing a song with them. He is learning how to do his own producing and seems to have almost mastered the task already.
Joe reported that he worked with Bob and showed him how to produce a video using a two-camera shot. In addition, this task was more challenging because it was shot on a green screen. Joe spoke about members getting rid of their files on the computers here in the VPC room.
Our computers are too full. Joe and Joseph are available on Monday and Wednesday mornings to teach members how to take their videos off our computer and put them on their own hard drives. All stored files in the Windows Computer are required to be removed by October 1, 2017. Joe O will be deleting the stored files October 2, 2017. The Windows Computers are not for storage of personal files. Please transfer your valued files to a portable hard drive or USB flash drive or they will be erased in October 2017. Every member can work on the Club computers, but must pack the project to their USB flash drive or portable hard drive, upon finishing editing or saving the project as a temporary file. The project files cannot be left stored in the Windows Computers.
Irene has been busy using her tablet to video events around Leisure World. She videoed a Tai Chi class and made copies for everyone.
Janice has completed an ILW about a 78-year-old woman who moved to Paris by herself, and another video about a woman who was a chef in antarctica.
Bev is learning how to use the camera and other equipment. She assisted in the two-camera shoot with Janice on “Blue Satin Nightgown.”
John Robinson has completed a project he was working on.
Michael Oh has been working with Anna, Mike T and Paul on various projects. He is also learning how to use the new amphitheater equipment. He is shooting several shows at the amphitheater.
Mike Turis has been working with Michael Oh, Anna and Paul and also is learning how to use the amphitheater equipment.
Bonnie made a notebook for the VPC room for members to enter hints and suggestions. She is working on some PSA projects and volunteered to do the ILW show for October.
Helen is learning how to use the camera equipment and how to do the computer producing program. She has volunteered to crew as needed.
Mara is involved with the big Community Church concert. After it is completed she plans to learn more about making videos.
Robin Forte-Lincke plans to offer a certification class for new members who wish to become producers. She spoke about being careful with copyrights, especially when covering show with copyright logos such as Disney.
A moment of silence was held for Ray Jarris an active member of VPC for many years. He will be sorely missed.
